The Portage
Day one started rough with two big fails on two different rapids. 90 degree rapids at that. It was a slow going grind. We got to mile 4 shortly after the last problem, and came upon an extremely tricky set of rapids. The book says Class II+, but because of the water level it might have gone up a bit. We chose to portage the 40 yards around it. First all the gear in numerous trips, then the 4 boats, one at a time. This took an hour and a half to move that 40 yards.
